Ohio's Passenger Trains Will Help More than Travel
Ohio received $400-million in Federal grant dollars to develop the 3-C "Quick Start" Project, our first step in creating a comprehensive passenger rail system throughout our state.
Benefits of Construction
- $400-million Federal dollars will come into Ohio to create passenger rail service along the "3C" Corridor
- The grant will be spent to upgrade tracks and crossings, build stations as well as maintenance and layover facilities, and the trains themselves.
- Work and materials will be supplied primarily by Ohio companies.
- 11,000 jobs will be generated.
- Every $1 invested will generate $3 in economic benefit.
Benefits to Ohioans
- Trains in this one corridor will be convenient to 6.8 million Ohioans.
- Ohioans could save as much as $36 million per year.
- More people will attend sports, arts and entertainment events in other cities, bringing new audiences; college students and businesses will travel more, too.
- Increased travel is expected to generate $111-million per year in added consumer spending.
- Land values along the route will rise dramatically, and urban renewal will result.
- Train lines invite new development. In Maine, a $100 million investment in passenger rail resulted in $7 billion in new construction investment alone.
